Original stories • Hand-drawn illustrations • Encouraging independent thinking

We grew up in this too, so we know what is missing.

There are few educational materials created specifically for Hungarian children living as a minority that truly reflect their linguistic and cultural environment. At NyelvHíd, we want to change that.

Our publications are designed to build vocabulary, reading comprehension, creativity and imagination. Rather than simply giving children ready-made answers, we encourage them to think for themselves, explore possibilities and develop ideas of their own.

Five of our publications are complete, and we are currently preparing them for printing and release. If we have sparked your interest, please fill in our short interest form and we will let you know as soon as our books become available to order.

Featured publication

Rejtélyes királyság

This publication is a genuine rarity among Hungarian language-development books: it weaves nearly 250 words spelled with “ly” into a single story, without using any words spelled with “j” alone.

The storybook

An illustrated educational tale where the words are remembered as part of the story.

The workbook

Accompanying exercises that reinforce the words from the story.

The two publications will be available separately, or later as a set.

Short preview

The samples shown are taken from the current prototype of the publication. The text and graphic design may still change before the final edition.

About us

A book studio shared by mother and daughter

The books were written and illustrated by my mother, Bettina Farkas. Most of the stories were originally created for us, her daughters, when we were children. When she was young, her parents enrolled her in a Slovak-language school, so she experienced first-hand how difficult it can be for a child to learn in a language other than their mother tongue, and to have too little room to develop their imagination and self-expression in that mother tongue. She wanted to make sure that we would never have to face the same difficulties.

Later she also used these materials with children in private lessons, and the positive experiences increasingly convinced us that these stories and educational materials should reach many more children, families and schools.

As I grew up, it became my own dream to help my mother publish the books she had been working on for many years, so that they could reach as many people as possible. My name is Réka Rebecca Farkas, and I am currently a university student, so building this project is a real challenge and a continuous learning process for me as well. Step by step I am learning everything needed to turn my mother’s work into real, functioning publications and a genuine brand. Today we work on this together: my mother brings the writing, the hand-made illustrations and the teaching experience to the studio, while I support our shared work with business strategy, brand and relationship building, and our digital presence.

Our goal is to ensure that children’s imagination and independent thinking continue to thrive in a world where technology and artificial intelligence increasingly provide ready-made answers. We want to create books that encourage curiosity, thoughtful exploration and original ideas. It matters to us that children do more than simply acquire knowledge: we want them to learn how to learn, think independently and use their imagination with confidence.

A teacher's view

„This unique and imaginative tale breaks away from the monotonous memorisation of lists of ‘ly’ words.”
